Vento club members were fortunate to hear Vince Vaccaro give them a primer to Chi running at the Trek Portsmouth store. Most of it was recorded and available below. Enjoy!!

Spring is roaring in like a lamb (?) and we are taking full advantage of the early warmth!

March saw some great local road races, VTC hade members participate in the Eastern States 20 Miler and Half Marathon, Paul, Tim, and Derek all braved the unrelenting wind and had great races  - way to represent!

Last weekend was the first annual Helping Children Hear in NH 5k, in Dover. Again VTC represented! We had Derek, Matt M and Ken in the top 22– nice job guys!

The Gilmanton 5k was also in March on a very chilly morning! Corinne was our sole rep – nice race Corinne!
If I have missed you I apologize! Share your race plans on the forum.

Don’t forget the first swim training session is this Wednesday night – 7pm at Trek, it will be followed  by 2 in pool sessions but this first dry land one will give a ton of info about swim form, open water techniques and drills you can try. It will be useful information to have for the in pool sessions on the 14th and 28th. Please sign up on the forum to let me know you are coming.

Also – EPICMAN! April 18th
The Epicman party will be our social gathering for April (they won’t all have free burritos and beer so don’t miss this one!). 7pm at the store – If anyone can make it early to help set up I would appreciate it!!

I am recruiting riders for the Portland to Portsmouth leg – the fundraising bar is set at $207.80 – the number of miles that Seth and Will are completing in their Epic Journey! Hit up your employers, neighbours, mums and dads! All the money raised from the Portland to Portsmouth leg, plus the donations at the party will be donated to Team Trevor!

If you are biking – we will be meeting at RiRa in Portland (at 12:45 for a pint) with an estimated departure time of 2pm. The bike leg will have full vehicle support, with technical, nutritional and ‘hydrational’ help!
Email me to register or let me know if you can help out that night.

As many of you know, it has been proposed that the indoor Portsmouth Pool be shut down. There has been an outpouring of support from both residents and local swimmers.  A group has developed to support the effort to save the pool. Below is a flyer with more information on what you can do. Please check it out!

I've been involved with triathlon for a little over 7 years now. I've also participated in bike races, running races and team sports.  While all of the athletes that participate in sports seem to have an affinity for fundraising, in my experience, triathletes are just a little bit more active in this area and willing to donate their time, talent and resources to social causes.

The Vento Triathlon Club is no different. We'll be supporting two organizations this year, Northeast Passage and Team Trevor. I've included information from each organization's website below so you can learn about each organization. Feel free to support either organization (or both!) on your own, but also stay tuned for opportunities to help your other Vento teammates support these fantastic organizations.

Northeast Passage
The mission of Northeast Passage is to create an environment where individuals with disabilities can recreate with the same freedom of choice, quality of life, and independence as their non-disabled peers.

We do this by developing, delivering, and evaluating innovative barrier-free recreation and health promotion programs. Our guiding principles are promoting client independence through education and problem solving, creating opportunities, and collaborating with others to create a strong network of accessible recreation.

Team Trevor
Team Trevor is made up of Trevor's family and friends and all of the good, kind, generous people who recognize the need to change the future for those people affected by cystic fibrosis. Trevor is an inspirational child whose big, brown eyes speak volumes about his love of life, his curiosity, and his kind nature. Team Trevor is going to help find a cure or management tool for CF because of Trevor.

We do this through local, grass roots fundraising efforts. We organize different fund-raising events throughout the year that are fun for the whole family. Some of these events are done in conjunction with the Northern New England Chapter of the CFF and some are done solely by us. 100% of the proceeds from Team Trevor efforts go directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Karen and Olivia unveiling the club kit
You know that feeling when you walk into a room and there is an energy you can feel but not quite describe?

That's what the Vento Tri Club launch party felt like tonight.  Imagine 50 or so triathletes, race directors, product representatives from companies like Blue Seventy and Oakley and one legendary pro triathlete, Karen Smyers.  It's no surprise there was such a buzz in the room!

Needless to say the launch party was a huge success in that we jump started our membership with lots of seacoast area triathletes with great attitudes looking for like minded athletes to train and socialize with.

In case you missed it - keep an eye out on the website for registration forms and information.  You can virtually experience the party by checking out our multimedia page
which includes photos and Karen Smyers talk to the Vento crew.

Want to know the basics on how to get and keep your bike in peak condition for the fast approaching triathlon season?

Mike Conlon, the lead tech guru from Portsmouth Trek, will be hosting two bike maintenance clinics in March.

Bike Maintenance 101 - March 15th, 5PM
Fix a Flat - March 29th, 5pm

Both clinics will be held at Portsmouth Trek, 775 Lafayette Road in Portsmouth.

Vento is now an official USA Triathlon Club! Among other benefits (besides being able to use the cool logo below) we are now eligible to compete in the national USA Triathlon National Club Championships and regional club series. This year's Club Championship will be in Myrtle Beach, SC - not a bad place to go in October!
